REMINDERS OF WHAT’S COMING UP

From the Pew Sheet for the week starting Sunday 19th February……The Sick – Please pray for those whose names have been placed on the prayer board in the Lady Chapel. Rest in Peace – We remember all who have died recently. We also recall William Filkins and Marjorie Blake, those whose anniversary falls at this time, and others known to us.

Daily Prayer 2012 – Please pray daily that our eyes would be open to see the hand of our Lord at work in our lives and in the Parish. How many different ways could you say you have seen God at work this past week?

Individual Prayers – We have a team led by the staff of Lingfield Parish available to pray with you in confidence at the end of the service. They may be found in the Lady Chapel. If they are busy with someone please wait in the Lady Chapel and another member of the team will join you as soon as possible.

Bishop Christopher’s call to FAITH, HOPE and LOVE – Recently Bishop Christopher set out the plans for his Mission Call. It has been very well organised and as a true Apostle he wants to lead all people in Southwark on our journey as disciples. This month we will all get a letter from the Bishop inviting us to reflect on Faith, Hope and Love during Lent and then to respond to the invitation at Easter tide.

Ash Wednesday February 22- Service of Holy Communion at 8.00pm.

Friday February 24 – Between 7.00pm & 9.00pm (song practice 6.30pm) a service calling young people to begin the Lenten season by laying down any burdens and those of others at the cross of Christ. Prayer Round the Cross Taize Style at Southwark Cathedral, with Bishop Christopher and the Taize Community, is for young people from Southwark and London Dioceses. Chants and prayers in the Taize style with a meditation by Bishop Christopher. See poster in the Miller Room for additional information.

GOOD NEWS – NEW BISHOP – Rev Jonathan Clark has been appointed the 10th Bishop of Croydon and will be consecrated on the 21st March in Southwark Cathedral and take up his new role in May. He is presently Rector of St. Mary, Stoke Newington. Please pray for him and Alison his wife – they have two grown up children.

GOOD NEWS – NEW AREA DEAN – The Rev Peter Moseling has been asked to take over from Rev Graham Paddick and he has accepted. Peter will possibly begin his duties after Easter. Please pray for both these clergymen and their wives, Ann and Sally.

Volunteers – This past week the people who recently asked to know more about a specific activity in the Church may have been contacted by the leaders of the various activities. During our Stewardship Renewal if you requested to know more about some aspect of church life and have not yet been contacted please speak to Steve or Jenny.

Lent Course – Lent is less than a month away. In relation to the Bishops Mission call to Faith Hope and Love we will be using a York Course by that name. The course is 5 weeks long and we hope to use it as an opportunity to increase our understanding of being disciples. Please sign up on the sheet in the Miller Room (on notice board) to say you would like to be part of the course. We need to know numbers so that we can order material. We will decide on venues and times when we know who has signed up. Please indicate on the sign up form which you would prefer; a morning, afternoon or evening session.

Fun, Games and Celebrations – As part of Lingfield’s Jubilee celebrations the RH7 history group is putting on an exhibition in early June. They would be delighted to hear from anyone who has local memories or documentation about any of the following:  1908 and 1948 Olympics, 1924 Empire Exhibition, VE Day, Festival of Britain, Coronations or other national events celebrated locally. If you can help please contact Mavis Priestley    01342 833579    priestley148@btinternet.com.

. Powered by God – Discipleship with the Gospel of Mark – 2012 During 2012 we are going to use the Gospel of  Mark to help us to become stronger Christians and develop a deeper relationship with our .Lord Jesus. We will use the Sunday sermon slot and hope to expand that to other areas of the church life as the year progresses. Notes from sermons so far: From Mary; New beginnings and new opportunities to share the love of God we have received with others. From Michael; Jesus is the new Israel and we need to listen to him as we try to be his disciples. From Steve; As his disciples we are called to empty ourselves of who we are and be filled with God. We are powered people not programmed. Powered by God. From Jenny; Although we all struggle through the manure of life, it is that manure which also helps the seed of faith grow, spread and flourish.

Quizz Night Saturday 28th January – Once again the annual Quizz Night was held at a packed out Community Centre and proved to be lots of fun. It was very much an evening of good food, good wine and good company whilst we all taxed our brains over a well organised quizz with lots of prizes. Well done and a big “Thank you” to all who organised it helping raise funds for St Peter and St Pauls.

2011 Charitable Giving: Thank you letters and acknowledgements from charities which benefitted from our 2011 charitable giving have been put on the notice board at the back of the church.

Church Cleaning – We are in need of some more volunteers to join our regular team and keep our church clean and tidy. About 1 hour every few weeks will be sufficient. Consider joining with someone, it makes the work more fun! Please see Sue Sharp or Churchwardens for information, contact telephone number and a rota slot. All welcome, training not required..

Several people kindly responded and we can report that the amazing sum of £680 was forthcoming. We could collect another “Pot of Gold” so if you have things you no longer need which you would be willing to donate please contact Pat Dobson (834317) or Felicity Pool (832519).
